Open the door to cheap solar

Keep safe, low-cost solar within reach. Drop rules that add no value. Check if lower import fees reach buyers.

Our planUpdated:

Our argument

Cheap clean power should be a chance to lower bills. Canada does not need to make every panel at home to gain from it. We want safe low-cost imports, fair install prices and a clear route to connect.

What must change

Keep safe, low-cost solar within reach. Drop rules that add no value. Check if lower import fees reach buyers.

What a win looks like

Lower whole-system costs for useful clean power, with safety and labour safeguards in place.

Public cost

We have not yet priced this ask for the public purse. Any public aid must be priced before we seek funds for it.

The evidence

E-E03

Some extra charges on Chinese solar goods ended on 17 September 2026. This applies to goods cleared through customs from that date.

Limits: These were duties linked to low export prices and state aid. The change does not end every tax, charge or import rule. Check which goods it covers and when they cleared customs.

Studies and notes

No case study is published here yet. This is the next question to check.

What we need to check

Track panel, freight, tax, install and grid costs. Check how much any drop in import costs reaches the buyer.
