Match waterway checks to real risk.

A federal call asks where waterway rules should apply. We want clear tests and less repeat work, with rights kept intact.

Updated:

This is about travel on water. A dropped federal check does not remove all other rules, permits or duties.

The opening

Transport Canada accepts comments until November 13, 2026. It asks which small waters and works could skip these rules. Some may pose low risk or face checks under other rules. The source gives no closing time or time zone.

Our draft ask

Please show the evidence for each proposed cut. Look at how people use the water in each season, not size alone. A narrow waterway can still matter. Name the rule that will protect the public when another review is removed. Keep Indigenous rights, a clear way to raise concerns and checks for harm.

How to take part

Read the proposal on the official page. It offers an email route and an online comment route. Add your experience before sending. We support clear rules based on risk; we do not endorse every proposed exclusion. No message is sent for you.
